Read Across America Night

By Lois Johnson

March 02, 2008

Underwood Elementary held their annual Read Across America and Family Reading Night activities on Thursday, February 28th to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday.  The students celebrated with some Seuss Says Read time, they wrote a Seuss-o-Gram, completed grade level activities and had special reading time during the school day. The cooks served them  a special green eggs meal with  a special birthday treat as an afternoon snack.

That evening started with family pictures being taken. The crowd was then treated to a wonderful performance of the real story of The Cat in the Hat performed by Lewie Curtis, Barrett Glasnapp, Bridget McHugh (as the Cat in the Hat), Olivia Curtis and Lance Parish.  Lewie Curtis and Shawn Darrington then sang the Book Scootin’ Boogie as the faculty entertained the crowd with their line dance choreographed by Joyce Tiarks and Kris Gunderson.

The Read Across America committee would like to thank everyone who participated in the day and night activities.
