2008 Eagle Jazz Band

Eagle Jazz Band Receives Best Score Yet at Bellevue East Jazz Festival!

The Underwood Eagle Jazz Band under the direction of David Clark has had another fantastic season in 2008.  They started off the year receiving a Division I rating and finishing second place at the Western Iowa Conference Jazz Contest in January.  At the IHSMA State Jazz Competition held at Abraham Lincoln High School the Eagle Jazz Band received top honors with a Division I rating for their performance and sight-reading.  In February the Eagle Jazz Band returned to Abraham Lincoln where they took 2nd place at the Bluffs Jazz Festival.  The following weekend in Audubon the Eagle Jazz Band competed at the Dick Bauman District Jazz festival where they earned a division I rating and second place trophy, which qualified them for the State Jazz Championships held in Des Moines on April 15th.  The band’s final competition before the championships was a stop at the Bellevue East Jazz Festival on March 8th.  The Eagle band put on their best performance of the year earning their highest score of the season.  Performers receiving special soloist awards were: Ben Hall (Tenor Sax), Melissa Torneten (Trombone), Jordan Pedersen (Trumpet), Stephen Heinicke (Drums), Laura Simons (Alto Sax), Bryan Curtis (Trombone), Katelyn Larsen (Flute/Sax) and Rachel Rollins (Bari. Sax).  Congratulations to the soloists and performers of the Underwood Eagle Jazz Band for a great season and best of luck at the State Jazz Championships!
