Wednesday, September 23, the second graders took a tour through the Rotella's Bakery in Omaha. What an interesting adventure we went on. The smell alone made your taste buds go wild. Here are some comments made by the students when we returned from our trip.
Jon Casson," I thought the machine that loads the bread into the semi was cool."
Cody Osler, " I liked when they let us feel the dough"
Lauren Brown, "It was cool to see all the machines and how they worked by themselves."
Cal Savin, "I thought it was interesting that several of the Rottella brothers worked there."
Abby May, "They gave us samples of the bread right off of the conveyer belt."
Tim Spiker, "The bread was hot when it came out of the oven. It went on a carrier to cool."
Alissa Wagner, "They let us taste the baked bread, Yum!"
Jairo Mayorga: " It was neat to watch the bread go around on the cooling racks. There were about 3,ooo loaves on the racks. We got to see the big ovens they baked the bread in."
Jared Redshaw, " There bread is shipped to grocery stores, restaurants, and even over to the soldiers in Iraq. It was cool to to the slicer cut the bread."
Mark Toreneton,"I liked the cooling rack the best. It went on a big round machine. It was neat to get to see the bread cooking in the oven."
Emily Larsen, " I liked to watch the bread bake. I liked the way the dough felt before it was baked in the oven."
Sam Paul, "We got to taste the dough before it was baked and it was good."
Zach Soar, "I like to see the oven. We got to see how the dough would raise up before it went in the ovens to cook. The oven was called the tunnel oven."
Aden Mackerman, "I liked how the bakery smelled ,and we got to see how the dough was mixed and dumped into big tubs."
Oscar Jensen, "I loved the bread! It was very good!"
Levi Pitt, "I liked the octopus fingers. It picked up the bread from the loaf pans and put them on a rack to cool."
Alex Kimball, "The dough was soft."
Andrew Baxter, "They actually have really good bread!"
Mrs. Urban, " The dough or bread that is damaged and couldn't be sold was sent to a farmer to feed his pigs. There is only 1 Rotella's bakery the whole world and it sends bread to all 50 states."
The field trip was a big success. We learned a lot and we all came home with a sack full of bread!
