The Underwood Eagle Wrestling Team stepped on to the mat at Riverside High School last Saturday and gave an outstanding performance. By qualifying 7 wrestlers to the District Tournament (at Mo Valley on Saturday, Feb. 13) and placing all 12 wrestlers entered into the top four place finishers, the Eagles captured first place with 199.5 points. That total outdistanced runner-up Riverside, who scored 180.5 points. Taking home first place finishes were Andrew Foutch (103#), Taylor Curtis (112#), Mike Novotny (135#), Drake Fanslau (140#), and Landon Eberl (145#).
Finishing in second place at their weight class and also qualifying for Districts were Seth Naig (125#) and Trevor Hough (130#). David Athey placed third at 160, and Gabel Sudmann (119#), Mason Tennigkeit (160#), Brody Telfer (171#), and Blake Gunderson (189#) contributed valuable team points by placing fourth.Due to poor weather, the Regional Dual is rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Griswold. 6:00 start.
Next up for the Eagles is the Regional Dual Meet being held at Griswold. The Eagles will take on Guthrie Center in the first round. If we win, we wrestle the winner of the Coon Rapids vs. Riverside dual. The winner of that earns a trip to the State Dual Meet Championships in Cedar Rapids on February 27. Come support the Eagles at Griswold on February 10, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
