Eagle Jazz in Full Swing...
February 19, 2010
The High School and Middle School jazz bands have both kicked off the jazz season. The High School Jazz band performed first at the IHSMA state jazz competition earning a 3rd consecutive Division I rating. Outstanding soloists were Katelyn Larsen and Kelsey Sorlien. They next competed at Iowa Western Community College and took 2nd place overall at the Western Iowa Conference Jazz Competition. Outstanding soloists for the competition were Katelyn Larsen, Kelsey Sorlien, and Dominick Myers. An outstanding section award was given to the Trombone section (Kelsey Sorlien, Mitch McKinney and Matt Konsor).
Both high school and middle school jazz bands competed at the Bluffs Jazz Festival hosted at Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs. This was the middle school's first performance. Lead by outstanding soloists Allison Freese, Diane Sherwin and Beth Gunderson the MS Jazz Band had an excellent performance and is looking forward to performing once again at the Dick Bauman Jazz festival. The high school band happily accepted the 4th place trophy at Bluffs, but is setting their sights higher for the district competition.
Both bands will perform at the (Dick Bauman) District Jazz Festival on Thursday, February 25th in the Audubon high school auditorium. The Middle School performs at 8:50am and the high school is scheduled to perform at 1:40pm.
Go Eagles!
