MARCH 2014 DISTRICT DISPATCH
Please make plans to attend the grand opening celebration for our new high school auditorium on Tuesday, March 4, 2014.  This special event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a reception area in the high school commons and “behind-the-scenes” tours of the new auditorium provided by school officials.  We hope you will be able to stay after your tour for the Underwood Pops Concert which will begin in the new auditorium at 7:00 p.m.  Make plans to attend this special evening of fun and entertainment.  The new auditorium is a very impressive structure and our instrumental and vocal music students are anxious to perform there for you!
Looking ahead to the second half of March, please note that we will be having kindergarten round-up on Thursday, March 20, 2014, and prekindergarten round-up on Friday, March 21, 2014.  The elementary office is presently in the process of identifying prekindergarten and kindergarten students for the 2014-15 school year.  You don’t need to wait until round-up time to register your child for prekindergarten or kindergarten.  If you know that your child or grandchild will be five-years-old on or before September 15, 2014, please call the elementary office at 566-2326 to inquire about registering for kindergarten.  Our kindergarten program is an all-day program that lasts for the entire school year.  If you know that your child or grandchild will be four-years-old on or before September 15, 2014, please call our elementary office and register for prekindergarten.  Unlike kindergarten, prekindergarten is voluntary and not required.  Our prekindergarten program is a half-day program which lasts for the entire school year.  We limit our enrollment to 36 students each year for this program.
Ever dream of winning it big in the lottery?  If so, don’t miss this year’s high school spring play entitled One in a Million by Craig Sodaro.  There will be two evening performances which will take place at 7:00 p.m. in our new high school auditorium on Friday, March 28, 2014, and Saturday, March 29, 2014.  This madcap comedy revolves around the hilarious antics of the Bloomfield family.  For Sunny, a foster child at the Bloomfield’s house, dreams of the future don’t usually involve $2.8 million.  However, when she finds a winning lottery ticket on the floor of the local Quick Mart, her world is turned upside down, spinning the entire Bloomfield household into hysterical chaos.  At his best, family patriarch, Oliver Bloomfield, is a crazy inventor whose inventions refuse to cooperate.  His wife, Carrie, is a scatterbrained librarian and Grandma is constantly trying to find her false teeth.  Things heat up when a grim child services employee arrives to take Sunny and her sister away from the Bloomfields.  To make matters worse, Louella Pierpont barges into the Bloomfield house with her spoiled son, Leonard, and claims the lottery ticket is hers.  It takes some fancy footwork to clear up the confusion and with millions of dollars on the line, the stakes are sky high.  With loads of over-the-top characters and a surprise ending, this play promises to indeed be “one-in-a-million.”  Mark your calendars now to attend this special event!
