Underwood HS Makes U.S. News Best High Schools List!

By McDonough, Matt

April 28, 2017

Underwood High School was awarded a Bronze Medal ranking in the latest U.S. News Best Schools list.  This puts Underwood in elite company-barely a quarter of the 22,000 schools evaluated nationwide receive a gold, sliver, or bronze ranking.

A four-step evaluation is used to determine medal-winning schools.  U.S. News uses basic data on enrollment, student ethnicity, and other profile information on the school.  Also considered are Advanced Placement (AP) data for each school.  Each high school's statewide assessment (the Iowa Assessment for Underwood) is included in the evaluation.  Finally, graduation rates and college readiness are included in the rankings.

This honor follows the recent release of the Iowa Report Card school rankings, where Underwood High School was one of only two schools in Southwest Iowa to be named a High-Performing school.  It was the only school to receive both honors in 2017.  Here's the Iowa Report Card information: http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/education/2017/01/12/iowa-school-report-card-releases-rankings/96503280/

These awards speak volumes about the hard work our staff and students put into their academics!  Congratulations!
