ACT Scores Soaring for Class of 2018!

Iowa School Report Card Results Also Show Strong Results

One academic measure that gets a great deal of attention is a school's ACT scores.  The official scores won't come out until the fall, but preliminary data for the Class of 2018 has been outstanding!  Approximately 75% of the class has taken the test to date.  Average scores are well above State Averages, which are higher in Iowa than our National Averages.  It just goes to confirm how great our students and teachers are doing here at Underwood!

Our latest results in the Iowa School Report Card came out in January.  The Iowa School Report Card was a part of an education reform package passed by the legislature in 2013.  It gives schools a score for each of the following areas:   Proficiency (on the Iowa Assessments); College and Career Ready Growth; Annual Expected Growth; Career Readiness; Graduation Rate;  Staff Retention; and Attendance.  There are six ranking levels of schools:  Priority, Needs Improvement, Acceptable, Commendable, High-Performing, and Exceptional.   Underwood High School again ranked as a High-Performing school, which places it in the top 9% of high schools in Iowa.  We have outstanding proficiency scores in all of our buildings.  Areas we will be working on in upcoming professional development are career readiness and college and career ready growth.   This will involve a more focused approach to writing and non-fiction reading in all content areas.
