APRIL 2019 DISTRICT DISPATCH
Please note that we will be having prekindergarten round-up and kindergarten round-up on Friday, April 5, 2019. Prekindergarten round-up will begin at 9:00 a.m. and kindergarten round-up will begin at 10:15 a.m. The elementary office is presently in the process of identifying prekindergarten and kindergarten students for the 2019-20 school year. You don’t need to wait until round-up time to register your child for prekindergarten or kindergarten. If you know that your child or grandchild will be five-years-old on or before September 15, 2019, please call the elementary office to inquire about registering for kindergarten. Our kindergarten program is an all-day program that lasts for the entire school year. If you know that your child or grandchild will be four-years-old on or before September 15, 2019, please call the elementary office and register for prekindergarten. Unlike kindergarten, prekindergarten is voluntary and not required. Our prekindergarten is a half-day program which lasts the entire school year.
As the end of the school year approaches, many teachers express concerns about losses in reading proficiency that some students experience over the summer. An important point to keep in mind is that parents can be terrific summer tutors. Our school district’s elementary/middle school summer library program provides a valuable resource to assist students in checking out books that can be enjoyable to read and help them keep their reading skills sharp over the summer. Lori Torgerson will have the elementary and middle school libraries open from 9:00 a.m. until noon each Thursday during the month of June. Please stop by and take advantage of this great summer opportunity!
Don’t forget that there will be a 1:30 p.m. dismissal on Thursday, April 18, 2019, and no school on Friday, April 19, 2019, or Monday April 22, 2019, because of spring break. Also, the regular April school board meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, in order to make sure the fiscal year 2019-20 (FY20) certified budget is filed with the county auditor’s office before the end of the working day on Monday, April 15, 2019.
