Vocal Music Department Finds Success at Solo/Ensemble

Savannah Smith, Emily Wagner, and Leah Wilson perform "The Rising" by Andrea Ramsey. The trio received a perfect score and Outstanding Performance Award from the judge.

On Saturday, March 30, the Underwood Vocal Music Department participated in the IHSMA Solo/Ensemble contest at AHSTW High School. There were over 23 solos and ensembles that performed in front of a judge for a rating from I (Superior) to V (Poor), making Underwood Vocal Music one of the most active schools in attendance on Saturday.

14 events received Division I (Superior) Ratings, 7 events received Division II (Excellent) Ratings, and 2 events received Division III (Good) Ratings. Two events--the Women's Ensemble and Treble Clef Trio--received perfect scores from the judges.

Additionally, the judge in each performance gets to select the best event from the day to receive an Outstanding Performance Award. The Treble Clef Trio, comprised of sophomores Savannah Smith, Leah Wilson, and freshman Emily Wagner, received this award. They will go on to perform at the Outstanding Performance Showcase in Ames later in May.
