Third Grade Homework

by Third Grade Teachers

HOMEWORK

During third grade each child should be spending and average of 30 minutes on homework per night. Students will occasionally bring home unfinished work. These assignments are meant to be finished and returned by the next morning unless otherwise noted. Reminders are given to return the work, or a student may be asked to stay in at recess time to complete it.
Most third grade assignments are limited to the amount of work that can be completed during class study times.  If your child is continually bringing home papers to finish it may be due to an inefficient use of his/her study time at school.  Please feel  free to contact the teacher if this seems to be a problem.

Generally work time for third grade students should be spent on the following activities:
 Reading books;
 Vocabulary words – pronounce and use in sentences;
 Spelling word practice;
 Math facts – review addition and subtraction to start; multiplication and division facts later;
 Writing – letters, stories, poems, journals – whatever appeals to him/her.
Changing the routine or way in which you help them practice tends to keep interest levels higher .Grades
