Spring Driver's Education Information

by Loren Lintner

January 05, 2012

UNDERWOOD COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
SPRING
DRIVER EDUCATION INFORMATION

This information is written to inform all of the possible driver education students and their parents about a SPRING driver education session and when it will take place.

The first portion of driver education is the classroom experience.  Each student will receive 30 hours of classroom instruction in accordance with Iowa Law during this portion of the driver education program.  If your son/daughter cannot attend a class period I must be notified, in person, of this.  If a student misses a class, it must be made up before they will receive their certificate.  A student will not be allowed to miss more than 2 days of class (dismissal from class after the 3rd miss).

The second portion of the driver education program includes the behind the wheel driving experience.  Students will be assigned time and partners to drive with.  Two or Three students will make up each group.  Students must have their driving permit by the first day of class, and each student is required to bring their permit each time they drive.  Each student will drive 6 clock hours behind the wheel.  I urge all parents to take their son/daughter out driving before, during, and after driver education.  A good driver is not made in 6 hours of driving in this class; everyone can improve their driving skills no matter how good they are, especially the beginning driver.

SPRING CLASSROOM:
TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY before school, from 6:30 to 8:00 AM.
NOTE:  The first class is January 31.   Driver times will be assigned during first class with the first drive possibility is January 7.

SPRING DRIVE TIMES:
Student drive times will be arranged Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday with the possibility of some Saturday drives.  These drives will be held after school from 3:45 to 5:45/6:45. (pending on number of drivers in group)
