Underwood Choirs Find Success at UNO, State Festivals
UHS the Only 2A School With Division I Ratings in Both Show and Jazz Choir!
The Underwood Choirs have been very busy the past few weeks as their competition season gets underway. "Unlimited" show choir and "North Street Jazz" jazz choir have been putting in hours of work on their competition pieces; recently, their hard work has paid off!
On Wednesday, February 5, 2020, Unlimited competed at the UNO Show Choir Festival, where they placed 2nd in their division. In addition to their high placement, the show choir received "Best Band" and "Best Female Soloist" awards. On the same day, the choir returned to UHS to host the Iowa High School Music Association State Show Choir Festival. In their second performance of the day, Unlimited received a Division I rating from all three judges.
Later on Monday, February 10, 2020, North Street Jazz competed at the Iowa High School Music Association State Jazz Choir Festival, where they received a Division I rating. Underwood High School is one of five high schools across the state who compete in both State Show Choir and Jazz Choir events in Class 2A, and the only 2A school to receive Division I ratings in both events. The students' hard work is paying off this season!
Both Unlimited and North Street Jazz will perform at their Pops Concert on February 25, 2020, at 7:00 PM at the UHS Auditorium. Unlimited will compete at the Lewis Central "Clash of the Titans" on Saturday, March 7, 2020, before they host their own Underwood Ultimate Invitational on Saturday, March 21, 2020.
Unlimited and North Street Jazz would like to thank their parents, the Underwood staff, administration, and community for all of their support throughout this busy season!
