FEBRUARY 2019 DISTRICT DISPATCH
On Saturday, February 16, 2019, the Underwood Optimist Club will be hosting adult and child CPR and AED training in the Underwood Middle School Library. This training will include how to unblock an obstructed airway. Two training sessions with certified instructors will be offered. The first one will run from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and the second one will run from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon. If you are interested in attending, please identify which session you want when you register. These sessions are open to the public and are free for anyone from age twelve on up. There is no written test, but an AED certification card will be available for $20.00 (cash only). It should be noted that this is not a Healthcare BLS (Basic Life Support) provider class. Other groups involved in promoting this event are the Underwood Community School District, Underwood Lutheran Church, and Saint John’s Lutheran Church (Honey Creek). All of these facilities have AED’s and would like people to know how to use them in case of an emergency. Each session will be limited to the first sixteen people who register.
The members of the Underwood Dollars for Scholars organization will host their seventh annual fried chicken fundraising dinner at UMBA Hall from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2019. This event will feature fried chicken, a baked potato, green beans, and ice cream. The cost will be $10.00 for ages eleven and up, $7.00 for ages five to ten, and free for ages four and under. Take-out orders are welcome. A silent auction and raffle will be held during the event. Donations of completed baskets or items such as gift cards will help fund scholarships for graduating seniors from Underwood High School. Please note that there is no school on Friday, February 15, 2019, because of winter break. In addition, there is no school for students on Monday, February 18, 2019, because of professional development activities for faculty members.
